READER REVIEW: Arjun's Review of Perry's Brownie Sundae

Perry’s is the Akron, NY ice cream outfit that I always make sure to scoop and enjoy whenever in Upstate New York. They do the standards, classics, and a few of their own creations. Brownie Sundae seems to be a combination of a classic and creation, promising a French Vanilla with a fudge swirl and brownie dough pieces, coming in at 170 calories per half cup serving.

Perry’s nailed the sundae flavor and feel with the fudge swirl, brownie pieces, and softened ice cream. It delivers the feeling that you have created this concoction from a create your own sundae bar. That feeling is apparent in the texture of the ice cream, obvious richness of the swirl, and gooeyness of the brownie pieces. The brownie pieces are abundant and scattered evenly and they reflect the texture of a chocolately brownie. Perry’s excels at the mixins a la cookie dough and small chocolate chips. Add the chocolate brownies to that list.

You will never bend or break your spoon digging into a bowl of Perry’s. If you prefer higher butterfat ice creams, you might find yourself discouraged by the softer texture of the French Vanilla base, which is the defining quality of the surface area. Thankfully, the ice cream below the surface does not melt quickly. The softness works well with the swirls and brownie pieces in the sundae construction. In comparison to other companies that fancy themselves as “premium,” Perry’s ice cream is the softest and quickest to disappear. In this particular flavor, it works beautifully because soft ice cream fits a sundae motif.
