REVIEW: Publix Premium Peppermint Stick (Limited Edition)
Almost every time I drop by Publix, they’re offering a two for $7.00 sale on most of their half gallons of Publix Premium ice creams. A deal like that coupled with the fact that I only have access to Publix a few times a month, means I regularly cash in on this offer. On my last trip, in addition to Caramel Mountain Tracks, I also picked up an option that I’d passed on last year. Publix Premium’s limited edition Peppermint Stick takes the unique approach of pair vanilla ice cream with peppermint candy. With the top tossed aside, the first layer was festive in color and only got better as scoops were transferred from the carton to a bowl.
At only 160 calories per serving, this comes in just above some of the lighter peppermint options currently available. The premium base was as could have been expected. Neither the taste nor consistency was that exciting, but served as a suitable start to show off the peppermint to come. Publix opted for a combination of red and green candies to aid the rather ordinary vanilla base. These add a considerable amount of taste and texture to nearly every bite they happen to be a part of. Not only do they add a crunch, they also provide all the familiar sensations associated with eating mint ice cream. The way the vanilla balances out the mint is a nice alternative to the usual methodology of combining peppermint candies with peppermint ice cream, but unfortunately, this underwhelming duo can’t come close to competing with some of the other limited edition options from Publix Premium.
