The Holiday Favorite lineup of flavors from Blue Bell is one of the most impressive you'll find. Already boasting fantastic flavors like Banana Nut, Christmas Cookies, Gingerbread House, and Spiced Pumpkin Pecan, this year they chose to add Peppermint Bark to the collection. This combination of mint ice cream with chunks of dark chocolate and white chocolate with crushed peppermint candy comes encased in a pink carton and adorned with their signature gold rimmed lid. Other companies like Talenti and Haagen Dazs have tried similarly themed pints, but after scooping a bowl full from the half gallon tub, we have higher hopes for Blue Bell's rendition.
Going into this review we assumed that Blue Bell would choose to use the same pale pink mint ice cream and brightly colored peppermint candies that they did in their standard Peppermint flavor from a few years ago, but after pulling back the lid, it's obvious they've tried an entirely new approach. This version features an all-white base and a mild, mint taste to serve as the foundation. The peppermint candies add texture and build upon the mint theme, but the bits of dark and white chocolates are what sets this apart. We gave their standard Peppermint a C, but the richly flavored duo of chocolates combine with the cool tingle of mint to bump this holiday inspired flavor up to a B. We'd still recommend one of the aforementioned heavy-hitting Holiday Favorite flavors if you're looking to splurge this season.
