Handel's, a chain around the PA and OH areas, makes 30 or so unique flavors daily and this one really caught my eye. I was thinking a vanilla base loaded with peanut butter cups when I first saw Reese's Peanut Butter Cup because you can't see the ice cream or mix-ins until they pull it out to put in a pint, and that is what I got.
Upon popping the lid, you see a very fine vanilla base and small hints of peanut butter cups filling the surface and as you soon dig into your first bite, you are really getting a solid vanilla base that has a creamy, cake batter taste that is very rich and full of flavor. This basic vanilla does shine in some of their others such as Spouse Like a House, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Vanilla Cake Batter, and Vanilla with Oreo which in my opinion, trumps Cold Stone Creamery for the best cake batter tasting vanilla base.
As you dig deeper it reminds me of Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Cup because you are nearly hitting peanut butter cups with every bite and not small rock hard mix-ins. I'm talking about peanut butter cup halves that are on the softer side and the peanut butter tastes like it's right out of a jar. Think of a peanut butter filling you would find in a buckeye that is on the creamier and sweeter side packed into the vanilla base and that is what you get. Handel's does not need to get fancy to make good ice cream. Their homemade ice cream packs serious flavor and the density this was a no brainer. This is a very good pint to pick up. If you are a peanut butter lover and enjoyed Peanut Butter Cup or a Peanut Butter Pie from Haagen-Dazs you need to try this!
