With the recent release of the new Core flavors from Ben & Jerry's in Europe, I've added a reader review from a fellow ice cream lover living in the UK in order to let us American folk know exactly what we're missing out on. With the long lineup of flavors available in the United States, it's only fair for us to stare with jealousy at some of the Core creations we aren't able to get our hands on over here. Luckily for us, Hannah, owner of The Review Addict!, has agreed to help us out.
After seeing a review of the new Peanut Butter Me Up Ben and Jerry's on Kev's Snack Reviews, I went searching in my local Sainsbury's. Sadly I think it was sold out because there was an empty space and it's been that way for the last week or so. I did however manage to get my hands on their other new flavour: Core Blondie Brownie. I saw it last week, but hadn't really taken much notice as we don't get particularly exciting ice cream flavours here in the UK. They all seem to contain brownie or cookie dough so I hadn't even realized that Blondie Brownie was a new flavour until stumbling across Kev's review. Blondie Brownie is a soft salted caramel core, surrounded by chocolate and vanilla ice creams with chocolate and blondie brownie chunks. It comes in your standard 500ml tub and contains 220 calories per 100ml. I paid £4.99 for this tub, typically it was the only flavour not on sale. The tub is split into 2 halves, one half is the vanilla ice cream which contains the pieces of blondie and the other half is the chocolate ice cream, which you guessed it, contains the brownie chunks. All of this sandwiches the thick caramel core.
As I've explained in my Cow Power review, I don't mess about when it comes to ice cream. That stuff is coming out of the tub as quickly as possible so I literally removed the tub with a pair of scissors. This worked particularly well with this flavor because it meant that I could make sure that the husband and I each got to try a decent amount of each element of the ice cream; I can't stand a poor mix! This ice cream was certainly packed with regular brownies and blondie brownies! My photo doesn't really do it justice, but trust me when I say that there was loads. Both were delicious and had a lovely gooey texture. Being a bit inexperienced when it comes to world of salted caramel, and not having much luck with what I have tried (overly salty being the issue in most cases), I have been a bit wary of trying it again. Ben and Jerry's, however, has the salted caramel spot on here and I totally get why people love it now. I think you just have to try the right product and oh my this ice cream is soooooo right! I know that I was whining about boring brownie ice cream before, but I take it back now! You can never have too much brownie and Ben and Jerry's does it so well. It also turns out that their blondie is equally as good and they have even converted me when it comes to salted caramel.
