As mentioned in a reader’s review of this same flavor, Blue Bell is a little late to the salty caramel fad that quickly swept through the ice cream world. Does that mean we weren’t interested in what Blue Bell could do with the combination? Absolutely not. As soon as we were able to find a pint of this creamy vanilla ice cream surrounded by a tasty salted caramel sauce swirl, we took advantage.
Blue Bell approaches their salty caramel debut by playing to their strengths, premium vanilla ice cream. They take an old favorite and swirl in plenty of caramel sauce. While we’re big fans of their standard caramel swirl, this salty version is ever better. Although the saltiness is mild compared to others, it’s just enough to balance out the sweet and creamy vanilla base. Not quite an A, but not bad for just vanilla ice cream and a swirl.
