REVIEW: Greenfield Toasted Coconut

As we find ourselves halfway through January, much of the country have found themselves dealing with frigid temperatures and daydreaming of the warmer months ahead. Shelves that were once stuffed with peppermint and pumpkin themed products aren't as attractive as they were at the beginning of the holiday season. That's where Greenfield Ice Cream Company's online ordering comes in handy giving you access to their entire lineup; including a bunch of flavors we've already given top marks.

One single digit temperature night last week, I decided to pull out a pint I'd been saving from our Greenfield Ice Cream Order: their Toasted Coconut. This flavor is a smooth and creamy texture with a rich warm coconut flavor enhanced from toasting and sounds like the perfect solution from the mundane selection in your area. After allowing the high-butterfat base to melt down a bit, I scraped my spoon over the first layer to collect some of the luscious, off-white ice cream. Most artisanal operations like Greenfield feel the need to leave large portions of coconut pulp to help texturally, but we were surprised to find that that detail wasn't nearly as prominent as in some others which should help this appeal to a broader range of consumers. The end result was a smooth feel with a sweet, but not too sweet, well-balanced blend of cream and slightly toasted coconut. If you're looking to escape to a warmer place and can't afford a vacation right now, Greenfield's Toasted Coconut could be a nice alternative (although we'd suggest some of their other flavors in front of this one).
