REVIEW: PET Birthday Cake
In an attempt to satisfy a birthday cake ice cream craving I went through one afternoon last week, I picked PET Dairy’s version. I’ve tried most every birthday themed flavor on the market, but for some reason I hadn’t gotten around to trying this yellow cake batter flavored ice cream with blue cream icing and rainbow sprinkles. Even though I was disappointed to see the lack of actual cake pieces, the inclusion of yellow cake batter instead of a standard white cake seemed like an interesting twist. Since we’re dealing with a premium ice cream, this one only contains 180 calories per serving.
I had remembered the epic swirls found in some of the other pints from PET, but I wasn’t sure that’d translate into an epic blue cream icing swirl. The first few scoops taken off the first layer only hinted at what was lying in the middle of this box. Once I dug deeper, I unearthed the most impressive birthday swirl we’ve seen. The thick, rigid, bright blue icing was the perfect partner to the yellow cake batter base. When combined with the sweet ice cream and crunchy, multi-colored sprinkles, I was more than satisfied. The inclusion of actual cake pieces would have easily elevated this to an A.
