REVIEW: Talenti Argentine Caramel

Following a Facebook promotion that slowly uncovered the identity of their four new flavors, Talenti officially released the new additions to their current lineup. Argentine Caramel, Alphonso Mango, Southern Butter Pecan and German Chocolate Cake joined some of their other high-ranking gelatos such as Sea Salt Caramel and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. Although I had been able to find German Chocolate Cake months ago, the others made their way into a nearby supermarket earlier this week. Considering Sea Salt Caramel ranks among the highest of any flavor I’ve reviewed, I couldn’t resist the similar sounding Argentine Caramel. Talenti describes this simple selection as a luxurious and rich gelato made with golden Argentinean-style dulce de leche.

The transparent pint shows off the singular shaded gelato inside; one that looks identical to that of Sea Salt Caramel. Without the addition of the Fleur De Sel sea salt and chocolate covered sea salt caramel truffles, Argentine Caramel only contains 200 calories per serving; which could easily be squeezed into anyone’s diet. After twisting off the top, the first layer looks just as luscious as its sea salt cousin. I allowed the gelato to thaw out for a few minutes, and then gathered large gob without much effort. Although I’ve savored the incredible consistency of Sea Salt Caramel over a half dozen times, it’s something you never quite get used to. Argentine Caramel has the same velvety feel that must be experienced first hand to fully appreciate.

This time around Talenti decided to forego the salty approach and focus solely on the healthy dose of dulce de leche instead. By avoiding the initial bite of the Fluer Del Sel, the sweetness of this caramel seems to be more concentrated than before; giving this gelato the taste of the individually wrapped caramels you'd find in a candy store. Even though the flavoring isn’t quite as complex as some other base-only offerings, the unique experience provided by Talenti’s Argentine Caramel keeps you coming back for more. If you were a fan of their Sea Salt Caramel, you’ll want to try this one out as well.
