The month of May not only brings us Blue Bell's Red, White & Blue Bell, but we're also getting a reintroduction to Mocha Madness: coffee ice cream with pecans, chocolate chips and caramel sauce. This repeat featured flavor offender sounded far more enticing than the newcomer. If this was anything like Mocha Almond Fudge, another rotational flavor, we'd be glad we invested in an entire half gallon.
As soon as we started scooping some out into a bowl, it was evident we had a winner. The coffee ice cream was short and simple compared to some of the artisan versions we've seen of late, but still served as the ideal host for the soft pecans, crunchy chocolate chips and thick stripes of buttery caramel swirl. While the fudge chunks and chewy nuts were a nice touch, a more substantial mix-in could have easily resulted in top marks instead of a B.
