REVIEW: Blue Bell Red, White & Blue Bell

In a flavor that seems like it should have been saved for the 4th of July, Blue Bell recently released this American-themed creation by combining strawberry ice cream loaded with succulent strawberries, a creamy vanilla ice cream and a smooth blueberry ice cream combined with real blueberries. Blue Bell’s inclusion of high amounts of high quality mix-ins tends to be one of our favorite aspects of the brand, so we’re always a little disappointed to see a carton without any. Regardless, Red, White & Blue Bell deserves a review.

As the outside of the container reads, this dessert certainly is colorful and the first layer shows an even distribution of each of the three ice creams. The vanilla seems to be the Blue Bell's generic option instead of their highly touted Homemade Vanilla, however still does a nice job of performing like a premium vanilla ice cream should. The strawberry brought back memories of Summer Strawberry Pie, but instead of including the pie crust pieces, they opted for leaving in the frozen slivers of strawberry; never a wise decision. Things did get a little better once we reached the blueberry section. The small blueberry bits only added flavor and a bit of texture to the smooth base, making the purple portion of this flavor our favorite. While many will buy this based off the decoration of the carton and the name itself, we suggest looking elsewhere in their current rotation if you want a top-tasting ice cream.
