REVIEW: Graeter's Caramel Truffle Gelato

After an excruciating wait to try Graeter's new Handcrafted Gelato lineup, we were finally able to secure a pint of their Caramel Truffle, which they describe as, "This singularly amazing flavor combines caramel gelato with pieces of savory sea-salt caramel truffles, creating a carnival of caramel certain to be enjoyed by all. And just like traditional Italian gelato, this gelato has half the butterfat of regular super-premium ice cream." Yielding only 2 and a half gallons of gelato per batch, we were ready to see how Graeter's could stack up against the competition.

As we usually do with gelato, we let our pint sit out for about 5 minutes at room temperature so the consistency was ideal for testing. Our first bite of the caramel gelato just screamed quality. The rich, smooth flavoring of the slow cooked brown sugar caramel is among the best we've tried. Coupled with a few handfuls of chocolate truffles filled with a robust salted caramel center and Graeter's fits right in with the top-tier gelato makers.
