A few weeks back I was contacted by an up and coming apparel company called Steep Caps. This recently-launched snapback brand had just dropped their first limited edition release with an ice cream embroidery motif and wanted to see if I would be interested in featuring it as part of the Ice Cream Informant. I wear hats to the gym almost every day and I’m always on the lookout for interesting additions to my collection, so I jumped at the opportunity. We exchanged information and I awaited for USPS to deliver some swag.
According to the company, In addition to the intricately embroidered designed snapback, “each cap comes with a "puzzle tag" that permits access to an html5 puzzle/riddle that will work on most mobiles as well as browsers. The puzzle is of course related to the theme of the hat.” With only 30 of each being produced, you’re also getting some serious exclusivity with one of these.
Steep Caps uses the Otto Snap 3030 Pro as the base for their first release and pairs it with canary yellow and hot pink stitching to overlay a melting ice cream bar on their all-caps STEEP text. The tight stitching also allows for the tilted Steep logo to be printed in white thread on the right side. The final part of the limited experience comes in the form of that aforementioned html5 riddle.
After clicking the Start Puzzle button on my iPhone, I was taken to a screen that required a few minutes of thinking followed by some Google detective skills. Eventually I was able to outsmart the riddle and was given a little ice cream education along the way. Kudos to the guys at Steep Caps and best of luck with the new venture.
