Milkshakes aren't exactly a part of my daily curriculum. In some ways I wish they were. Few things can truly brighten your day (or night) like a good, indulgent combination of milk and ice cream. Of course, I'd be staring back at my old, 340-pound self again. Nonetheless, the last two times I had a milkshake were from fast food joints. Before tonight, it was a Shamrock Shake from McDonalds, which they screwed up by giving me a vanilla shake. And before that, I indulged in the far superior Peppermint Chocolate Chip Milkshake from Chick-fil-A. Speaking of which, they are now bestowing us with the Mocha Cookies & Cream Milkshake, a "coffee-flavored treat, hand-spun with Chick-fil-A Icedream and real chocolate cookie crumbs, topped with whipped cream and a cherry."
My best friend and I decided to snag this latest offering after a gloomy night shift. He elected for the large size, I came short with a small shake. The presentation is typical and unassuming, with a styrofoam cup and clear cover for the whipped cream and cherry. Our initial sips are quite dense, requiring a bit of effort to let the concoction truly grace us. Upon arrival, there's a definite vanilla and chocolate combination which, thanks to a good distribution of crumbled Oreo cookies, delivers a nice cookies & cream combination. Rounding out the experience is a distinctly mocha aftertaste, leaving the impression we just got something out of Starbucks.
By the time I reach the second half of my milkshake the whipped cream had combined with the shake. It might be because I was sipping rather frequently, but the mocha flavoring became a bit of an afterthought. The cookies & cream flavor still works great and, thanks to a more chocolaty taste, avoids feeling rudimentary. Reaching the end of this plain-looking treat comes a little too soon, but I've had my fill and find myself smiling like a little kid on his birthday.
