REVIEW: Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia Greek Frozen Yogurt
Yesterday, August 1st, 2014, marked what would have been Jerry Garcia's 72nd birthday and to celebrate his legacy we decided to grab a pint of Ben & Jerry's new limited batch Cherry Garcia Greek Frozen Yogurt: cherry Greek frozen yogurt with cherries and fudge flakes. In the past we've criticized their standard Cherry Garcia ice cream (which only managed to score a C on our grading system), but had higher hopes for this coveted combination of cherries and fudge once some Greek yogurt was added to the equation. The fist layer looked identical to its ice cream counterpart, and while the taste was similar, the tanginess of the Greek yogurt added an interesting aspect to the cherry base that gave this version a different feel. The same cherries and fudge flakes found in the standard offering were present here, giving some texture and adding in a rich, chocolate finish to bites including bits of broken fudge. Even though this Greek Frozen Yogurt version is slightly altered, it still couldn't manage to break into the next level of our rankings. With that said, at only 800 calories for the whole pint and 20 grams of protein, this is much more attractive than Cherry Garcia Ice Cream for someone keeping track of their calorie consumption and macros.
