This is the full version of Edy’s Cookies N’ Cream in the company’s Grand series. There is an analogous lighter version in the Slow-Churned series, if you choose that option. The Grand rendition aims to recreate a milk and cookies experience, promising: creamy vanilla ice cream with crunchy cream-filled chocolate cookie pieces in every bite.
The picture should convey just how well-dispersed and sizable the cookie pieces are. They virtually were in every bite, large and small. The pieces were not of uniform size, which does not really matter. They certainly look pretty on the spoon, but they lack the crunch that they promise. They are all on the soft side, almost integrating themselves in the softness of the ice cream.
The vanilla ice cream is not the vanilla I am accustomed to from this Nestle outfit, which is always stellar for its lighter or less premium nature. It seemed like they managed to capture that creamy vanilla mix that the flavor promises, but the base leaves a lot to be desired. It reached a point of just feeling non-descript. The sensation of consuming it was the kind of its-cold-ice-cream pleasant, rather than the ice cream having its own taste or sensation. That is probably the disappointing feature of the flavor that brings it down and has me hankering to revert to the safe vanilla flavors I know and enjoy from Edy’s. That and if you want crunch, you probably will not get it.
