READER REVIEW: Arjun's Review of Graeter's Vanilla Chocolate Chip
For abundantly delicious reasons, it would seem that the Informant and the readership of the site are Graeter’s enthusiasts. Count me in, especially on account of the richness and gargantuan nature of the chocolate chips. The Columbus-based company promises the combination of French Port vanilla ice cream with their signature chocolate chips. You can smell the vanilla when you crack open the pint. The flavor is delightful from the top of the pint all the way down to the nadir.
The chocolate chips can be the attraction of the flavor, but they do have the effect of overpowering the vanilla base at times. The French pot process that Graeter’s is famous for produces some stellar ice cream, vanilla included. That shines through in this flavor.
The pint is full of memorable scoops and ice cream goodness, but I caution potential feasters because the chocolate chips had the effect of limiting the amount of vanilla ice cream. If you want to savor the base, I would recommend going with the Vanilla flavor. There were many scoops throughout the pint where I was exclusively scooping chips. That definitely was not something to complain about because they melted in my mouth and I was after the chocolate chips, However, if you think that you want to enjoy the French Pot vanilla base, you might be better off with the vanilla pint rather than the vanilla chocolate chip one. I will definitely be scooping the pure vanilla in the near future. It is really a matter of know what you want. Luckily for us ice cream enthusiasts, Graeter’s produces top-notch ice cream and mix-ins.
