REVIEW: Edy's Slow Churned Luscious Red Velvet Cake

Edy's recently started rolling out its Limited Edition Bakery Treats lineup, which includes Coffee & Cookies Delight, Cinnamon Bun Fun!, and the carton seen above, Luscious Red Velvet Cake. All of the Bakery Treats flavors we've seen so far seem to be Slow Churned only, but according to Edy's website, these will all be available as Grand versions as well.

One serving of this red velvet light ice cream with a cream cheese frosting swirl and red velvet cake pieces weighs in at 110 calories; suspiciously low for a flavor containing mix-ins and a swirl. The ice cream easily gave way to my scoop, stringing upwards and sticking to itself as I pulled the gooey, gummy base ice cream into a bowl. Luckily, the flavoring was far better than the consistency. The base was easily distinguishable as red velvet, and while the cake pieces and cream cheese swirl were minimal, they still helped out the overall theme.

If you're trying to shed a few pounds or prefer quantity over quality, this isn't a bad option. On the other hand, if you're looking for an above average red velvet cake ice cream experience, this probably isn't what you should seek out. Edy's Slow Churned Luscious Red Velvet Cake couldn't manage to rise above mediocrity.

Where I Found It: Walmart
Grade: C

Like most other mediocre flavors, I like to spice things up a bit. This red velvet bundt cake with cream cheese frosting and a cream cheese frosting center fit the bill nicely.
