REVIEW: Front Porch My-O-My Peanut Butter Pie
Front Porch recently rolled out four new flavors to join the original fifteen, most of which I’ve tried. Joining their County Fair Fried Apple Pie, Happily Pineapply Upside Down Cake and Wildly Wildberry Cheesecake, My-O-My Peanut Butter Pie sounded like it had the potential to be the best of the bunch. They claim, “If you’re looking to create some genuine excitement at dessert time, here’s the rich, creamy, Southern goodness you need to make it happen. We’ve taken smooth peanut butter ice cream, thrown in hunks of chocolate piecrust, and layered in some velvety peanut butter swirl for good measure. This is how lines start at the dessert table.” This particular pint had been sold out for some time at the supermarket I usually score my Front Porch flavors from (which should be a good sign for them), so I snatched up the last remaining carton as soon as I saw it.
Peanut butter based ice creams consistently have the highest nutrition facts, but like many of their others, Front Porch is able to keep this premium ice cream below 200 calories per serving. For just 190 calories per serving, you get a pint packed with peanut butter ice cream with a peanut butter swirl and chocolate pie crust pieces; all of which are visible from the first layer on. As usual, their base ice cream is fluffy and not quite as dense as some super-premium pints, but still plenty thick enough to show off the rich, peanut butter flavoring inside. As I work my through a few bites, the softer consistency of the ice cream is actually helpful in more accurately impersonating the feel of actual pie. As you can see from the pictures, the peanut butter swirl is thick, highly concentrated and further builds on the nuttiness of the base.
The final piece of the pie comes from the chocolate piecrust that has been crumbled in. Chocolate and peanut butter are being blended together in food constantly, but that’s because they compliment each other so well. These soft and chewy bits add the ideal amount of contrasting chocolate flavors and textures to really bring My-O-My Peanut Butter Pie up to the next level. Although many of their original offerings were enjoyable, their new options are far better. Simple selections like Sassy Strawberry, Lemony Sunshine and Peachy Keen have been left behind in lieu of more intricate, mix-in filled flavors that are much more effective. My-O-My Peanut Butter Pie was not only the best of the new creations, but also my new personal favorite from Front Porch.
