READER REVIEW: Arjun's Review of Ben & Jerry's Cheesecake Brownie

I have not seen this flavor reviewed (by a reader) on this site and rare is the Ben & Jerry’s pint that has not received considerable scrutiny, so I am excited to review this.

The brownies are glorious and the best part is that they are abundant. The further the spoon digs in, the more you are rewarded for your persistence in the form of abundant brownies, to the point of one per spoon full. You can even negotiate multiple brownie pieces per spoon if so desired and the best part is that they are not compromised into smaller pieces. They maintain their beautiful large sizes from the top to the nadir. Throughout the pint, rare is the spoon that does not accumulate an enjoyable ration of brownie to cheesecake ice cream. As you can glean from the pictures, pulling back the lid and witnessing the promise of brownies floating on the surface induced high expectations for this flavor.

There is nothing distinctive about the ice cream base per se. I cannot recall having another flavor with this kind of base, so I am not sure how to compare it. I would be interested to know how it stacks up against Red Velvet Cake. The off white color conveys its uniqueness and each bite delivers as the brownies provide perfect chewy complement to this already delectable base.

Usually in flavors that rely on the simplicity of base plus one mix-in, there is a clamor for addition mix-ins or an accompanying swirl to enhance the experience. No such accouterments are necessary in this flavor. Additions would be overkill at this point. The sheer abundance of the brownie mix-ins are sufficient to garner a top-notch flavor with the unique base. Black and white is the theme to this batch and that lack of complexity is actually a strength.

Every bite of this pint was delightful. I wish that the flavor was made more available; I have not found it any grocery retailer or convenience store. If you find this at a store or make a trip to a scoop shop, I highly recommend this.

On a side bar, I am not sure if the brownie pieces come from the Greyston Factory in Upstate New York that the Informant has written about recently and are featured in classics like Chocolate Fudge Brownie. I was looking for information on the container, but I did not find anything highlighting their association with Greyston. If you read the Chocolate Fudge Brownie paragraph, you will see that company emphasizing that relationship.
