I had been on the lookout for the Seasonal Selection releases from Blue Bunny following a Freezer Find submission last month. I was able to not only secure Spumoni (which we’ll be reviewing later this week), but also Perfectly Peppermint: mint ice cream swirled with peppermint sauce and peppermint candy.
It’s very rare that any food product you actually ingest looks better than the pictures you see in the advertisements or on the packaging, but this is one of those instances. This 160 calorie per serving premium ice cream looked somewhat tame on the surface, but as soon as I started scooping some out, I encountered the most impressive mint swirl we’ve seen.
The mint ice cream base is mild for the most part, providing a sweet, mint foundation to build upon with the other ingredients. The teal and red pieces of peppermint candy added some crunch and additional mint flavoring, but was soon forgotten once I hit the sauce. This bright red concentration of peppermint took the cooling sensation to the next level, and even though it was a bit overpowering, we still gave the trio of ingredients a B.
