REVIEW: Breyers Raspberry Cheesecake Gelato Indulgences

Breyers, the same brand that we’d practically boycotted following failure after failure with their frozen dairy desserts, recently released something that caught our attention. In an attempt to get their cut of the pre-packaged gelato market, Breyer’s has released four attractive looking flavors: Vanilla Caramel, Tiramisu, Triple Chocolate, and the one that intrigued us the most, Raspberry Cheesecake.

This flavor’s profile from their website reads, “get wrapped up in silky cheesecake gelato, luscious raspberry sauce and gourmet graham crumbles.” Although the ingredient list is rather long, hopefully the 170 calories per serving means this won’t be full of fake dairy dessert like many of their other products. With the lid removed and the plastic seal pulled back, this one is definitely easy on the eyes. The vivid stripes of raspberry sauce against the off-white gelato produces a nice backdrop for the golden graham cracker crumbles.

Albeit the cheesecake gelato still had a rather gummy texture compared to other top-tier competitors, it was noticeably better than their frozen dairy dessert and provided a nice amount of cheesecake flavoring. The high concentration of raspberry sauce meant that nearly every bite involved a little tartness to help counteract the rich gelato. Despite the fact that the graham cracker crumble only covered the top layer, the bites that did include some, exceeded our overall expectations; enough so that we gave Breyer’s latest a B.
